Luzia Helfer is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Leiden. Her PhD project aims to provide a deeper insight into the agenda-setting power of the media in politics as well as the power of politicians to set the media agenda. This is a sub-project of a larger study funded by the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) running under the title “Beyond agenda-setting: Towards a better understanding of the power relationship between politicians and journalists” by Dr. Peter van Aelst.
Luzia Helfer is originally from Berne, Switzerland. In 2011 she completed a two-year Master in Communication Science, focusing on methods and statistics, at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Luzia Helfer has obtained a French-German BA degree from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. She also gained valuable experience outside of academia while working at a renowned Swiss newspaper and during internships at a market research company and a television network.
